A beginner's work in progress.......
Why are facts so unimportant to them?
Published on September 24, 2005 By dabe In Politics
I was thinking about writing an article about why I think conservatives are conservatives, why republicans are republicans and why in hell they cannot, or refuse to put together the facts that would make the sanest of people go hmmmmmmm.........................

In other words, it seems to me that republicans refuse to accept facts, but instead rely solely on some kind of preconceived notion of morality, that being their definition of morality, in spite of and regardless of facts that would prove that some things this administration is doing just doesn't add up to anything I would consider as moral.

OK, I realize that what I consider to be moral is letting people live their lives without religious intrusion from government, without stealing people's money for corporate interests, spending whatever it takes to educate children, as they are our future, and providing health care to all citizens regardless of employment or lack thereof, as a right belonging to all Americans, rather than to only some privileged few (leaving out 45 million people from health care access is not a few people), protecting our environment using whatever resources we have at our disposal, as this is our home, our only home.

Republicans consider morality as supporting our president, right or wrong, and now particularly to rationalize an illegal war, legislating away the rights of women to obtain abortions, if that is what a woman would choose for herself, allow schools to teach religion as a science (though some would insist that it should be taught as a philosophy, as long as it's taught, which they feel is must be), allowing corporations to police themselves when it comes to environmental pollution, as anything less would constitute federal intrusion into private lives, yet at the same time, insist that gays should not be allowed to marry, even though that is a federal intrusion into private lives, etc. etc. etc. The difference being that repubs seem to think that government should intrude on private individuals lives, but not on private corporations' interests, that being only money interests, the bottom line. Huh? Where is the morality in that?

When I finally do write my article, I'll likely not post it here. This blog at JU is only a way for me to fish out republican thinking, discompassionate mindsets, and even racism. I use the info I get here as fodder for my real blogsite, which I have recently just started.

Anyway, I was hunting around the internet to start thinking about my article, when I came across this forum post. I am reposting it here, because it is so dead on accurate, and boggles my mind in it's very telling sentiment.

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today

* Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime,
unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you
need our prayers for your recovery.

* The United States should get out of the United Nations,
but our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

* Government should relax regulation of Big Business and
Big Money but crack down on individuals who use marijuana to relieve the pain of illness.

* "Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers
and moving their jobs to India and China.

* A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own
body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

* Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals
and Hillary Clinton.

* The best way to improve military morale is to praise the
troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

* Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins unless you
someday run for governor of California as a Republican.

* If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

* A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies,
then demand their cooperation and money.

* HMOs and insurance companies have the interest of the public at heart.

* Using US tax dollars to provide health care to all Iraqis is sound policy.
Providing national health care to all Americans is socialism.

* Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science,
but creationism should be taught in schools.

* Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him,
a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

* A president lying about an extramarital affair is an
impeachable offense. A president lying to enlist support for a war in
which thousands die and 100's of billions of US tax dollars are pissed away is solid defense policy.

* Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution,
which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

* The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades,
but George Bush's military and driving record is none of our business.

* You support states' rights, which means Attorney General
John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have a right to adopt.

* What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest,
but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

* Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam
is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

Top 25 Things You Have to Believe to Be a Democrat Today

Drug addiction is a disease that should be treated with compassion and understanding...unless the addict is a Conservative talk show host.

The United States should be subservient to the United Nations. Our highest authority is not God and the U.S. Constitution, but a collective of tinpot dictators (and their appeasers) and the U.N. charter.

Government should relax drug laws regardless of the potential for abuse, but should pass new and unConstitutional anti-gun laws because of the potential for abuse.

Calls for increased security after a terrorist attack are "political opportunism," but calls for more gun control after a criminal's spree killing is "a logical solution."

"It Takes a Village" means everything you want it to mean...except creeping socialist government involvement in the nuclear family.

Disarming innocent, law-abiding citizens helps protect them from evil, lawless terrorists.

Slowly killing an unborn innocent by tearing it apart limb from limb is good. Slowly killing an innocent disabled woman by starving her to death is good. Quickly killing terrorists, convicted murderers and rapists is BAD.

Every religion should be respected and promoted in public schools the name of diversity, so long as that religion isn't Christianity.

The best way to support our troops is to criticize their every move. This will let them know they're thought of often.

Sexual harassment, groping and drug use are degenerate if you're the governor of California, but it's okay if you're the President of the United States.

Sex education should be required so that teens can make informed choices about sex, but gun education should be banned because it will turn those same teens into maniacal mass-murderers.

Minorities are blameless for the hatred of the racist; women are blameless for the hatred of the rapist; but America is entirely at fault for the hatred of Islamofascists.

Poverty is the cause of all terrorism...which is why the leaders of al Qaeda are typically U.S.-educated and were raised in wealth and luxury.

The Patriot Act is a horrific compromise of Constitutional rights, but anti-Second Amendment laws and Franklin Roosevelt's Presidential Order 9066 must be regarded "reasonable precautions."

We should unquestioningly honor the wishes of our age-old allies, even when said allies no longer act like our allies and have vested economic interests in propping up our enemies.

Socialized medicine is the ideal. Nevermind all those people who spend every dime they have to get to the United States so they can get quality medical care...that their nation's socialized medical community can't provide.

Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky and Natalie Maines are perfectly qualified to criticize our leadership, but Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charlton Heston, and Dennis Miller are just ignorant political hacks.

John Lott's research on how gun ownership reduces crime is junk science, but Michael Bellesiles is still an authority on why gun control is good (even though he was forced to resign from Emory due to research misconduct over his book "Arming America").

Bush's toppling the Saddam regime was a "diversion," but Clinton's lobbing a couple of cruise missiles at Iraq in the thick of the Lewinsky sex scandal was "sending a message."

A president who lies under oath is okay, but a president who references sixteen words from an allies' intelligence report should be dragged through the streets naked.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning Second Amendment rights and shopping the courts for judges sympathetic to causes that wouldn't pass in any legislature.

"The People" in the First Amendment means The People; "the People" in the Fourth Amendment means The People; "the People" in the Ninth Amendment means The People; "the People" in the Tenth Amendment means The People; but "the People" in the Second Amendment (ratified in 1791) means the National Guard (created by an Act of Congress in 1903).

You support a woman's "right to choose" to kill her unborn child, but don't believe that same woman is competent enough to homeschool the children she bears.

Proven draft-dodging is irrelevant, but baseless claims of AWOL status is crucial to national security.

Threatening to boycott Dr. Laura's and Rush Limbaugh's advertisers is exercising Freedom of Speech, but threatening to boycott CBS's "The Reagans" and Liberal actors over their asinine anti-American remarks is censorship and McCarthyist blacklisting.

or
How to be a good Democrat:

1. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

2. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese & North Korean communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical, documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUVs.

6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural.

7. You have to be against capital punishment but support abortion on demand.

8. You have to believe that businesses create oppression, and governments create prosperity.

9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.

10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe that the military, not corrupt politicians, start wars.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E.Lee, and Thomas Edison.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and really a very nice person.

17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge.

18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and sex offender belonged in the White House.

19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese government is somehow in the best interest of the United States.

21. You have to believe that this letter is part of a vast, right-wing conspiracy.

There. now both parties can show off their stupid, petty, pointless, bs lists.

Hatemongering is what righties do so well.

Oh the irony of that statement..........but here ya go, you've inspired me to write a new article. Link

on Sep 24, 2005
Here's what I think you need to be a conservative/republcan:

1. A firm beleif that, if left to their own devices, people will do the wrong thing. Liberals/democrats often seem to see it the opposite way; they have much more faith in human nature thn we do. it stems from their naive, rosy glasses outlook.

2. A firm belief that people who work hard and earn their money deserve to keep as much of it as possible, instead of having Big Government tax it and use it to support a neverending stream of programs for people who very often refuse to work.

3. A firm belief that, if a woman has the right to choose to have unprotected sex, the baby she helped create has just as much right to live.

4. A firm belief that personal Liberty and freedom from government imposition is the solution to all the world's ills. Once again, the liberals/democrats want more government involvement in people's lives (after all, "it takes a village to raise a child," right? But then, if a Republican government comes up with a few potentially intrusive programs of their own in, say, time of national crisis, it's becoming a "fascist state").

5. A firm belief in the Capitalist system to keep itselfand the nation afloat without government intervention and sanctions on industry and business.

6. A realization and recognition that the inherent inequality in race relations in America has, thanks to liberal politics in the last 40 years, turned in the other direction.

That's just a few off the top of my head...I know you won't agree with any of them, though.

By the way; becoming addicted to ~~perfectly legal~~ pain pills after painful medical procedures is quite a bit different from becoming addicted to, say, crack or heroin. One chooses to take those....they're not prescribed by a doctor.

I hear Al Frankenstein is in the soup for lying about his knowledge of misappropraited donations to help keep his dying show on the air.
Seems his signature helped steal government money from poor children at a youth center to sponsor his show; something of which he oiginally denied having any knowledge. That's despicable.

Also, liberal talk radio has been taking donations drummed up from Hillary, Ted, "Dingy" Harry, etc. to keep them afloat.....all the while, conservative talk radio doesn't have enough advertising space.
It's too bad "Air America" isn't as successful (or as well done) as Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, et al. Maybe they'd have some listeners and would have at lasta little advertising revenue rather than having to depend on government money to stay on the air.
Maybe they'd also have more than just 70 stations fom coast-to-coast. We don't even have a station anywhere around here runs it.

But then, I guess it's appropriate...government money is what the Left is all about, right?
on Sep 24, 2005
Rightie,

Your claim that the left is all about government money? I'm suprised that your tounge didn't snap off it's roller. Seems as if the RIGHT is all about the government cake nowadays. Violating their own basic tenet about less money and centralized control. Hypocricy at it's finest is what the elephant specializes in lately.

As far as the rightie media lapdogs go? I have noticed that they haved tried to shift their programming to anything else BUT Iraq and Afghanistan lately. Jeez...I wonder why that is?

When it comes to the truth department, they can't hold Al's jock. That's why you guys hate him so much.

---thatoneguy

We're in a war, guy...wars require money and government control. Just ask FDR, who controlled prices, the press, virtually every aspect of Ameican life from 1941-1945. Besides, if master porkers like Byrd would lay off for a while, there just might be a little more to go around.

+LOL+ Dabe, you're such a freaking hypocrite. YOU, dabe, are one of the biggest and worst haters on JU. You condemn LW and I for our "racist" views. Fine...that's your right. But I've been here year, and I've never, not once, wished death on anyone, even in jest. Though I can't speak completely for LW and her prodigous output, I feel safe in assuming that she never has, either.
You on the other hand, just recently, in fact, posted a reply where you said that you wished all conseratives would die. I wish I could remember which article it was on so could post it. If anyone does, please post the link. I responded by telling you to listen to yourself.

You're what is coloquially known as a "liberal whacko", dabe. You can't see the forest for the trees you hug. You are exactly what popular conservative talkers like Limbaugh get paid so very highly to make fun of. You need to go live with fellow whackjob Cindy Sheehan....at least until the Left gets done using her as its Cause of the Moment and moves on to its next cash cow.
